It may seem ridiculous to you, but comic books are important to me! As a kid, I didn’t have particularly much, and my mom moved us from locale to locale a lot! Not in a normal way, such as us moving for her work… All of us would just live in a locale until all of us were about to get evicted for non payment, then sneak away and move to a separate city in the middle of the night. And through it all, I could constantly find the same comic books in any town, and so I started to collect them. I actually still have some of those first comics I bought, kept safely in a temperature controlled air conditioned collection room in my basement. This is a completely separate temperature control system then I have for the rest of the house, for reasons that I will begin to explain here. To keep them in the optimum condition, comics need strict settings for temperature, humidity, and overall air quality; unfortunately, comic books were often printed on the cheapest paper, using the cheapest inks, because no one thought they were worthy of being collectable. So temperature control is entirely the only way to keep them in great shape, as left on their own, the humidity and temperature would slowly degrade them into a pile of nothing. I also keep two different UV air filters down there, to scrub any possible particulate material out of the air. However don’t feel that I keep them locked away, though, part of the reason I need such strict air quality control down there is because I get a kick out of taking them out and reading them.
