I bought a ‘last season’s leftover’ heater for my garage. The heater was still in the box, but what I didn’t know is that there were no installation instructions in the box. I worked for two days, trying to get the heater put together properly and installed. When I finally connected it to the power source, nothing happened. I couldn’t figure out what was wrong, other than I wasn’t an HVAC technician and I had no instructions. Normally, my instincts are good with anything electronic. I was scratching my head, wondering where I had gone wrong. My wife asked if I wanted her to call the HVAC company, but I told her I wanted to try one more thing. I did a few adjustments to the heater, and then I plugged it into the power source. Instead of the heater turning on, it popped and then it smoked. I knew this was not what was supposed to happen. I yelled into my wife and told her to call the HVAC company. An hour later, there was a HVAC technician walking into the garage. He took one look at the heater, and I could see skepticism written all over his face. I told him it was a ‘last season’s leftover’, and he cringed. He asked for the instructions. I told him there were no instructions with the heater, so I didn’t have any. He went through everything in the box and shrugged. After pulling out his tools, he looked up and told me we should be able to get it working if we worked together.
